Across The High Plains for Full Orchestra

The spirit of the American pioneer is exemplified by the great Westward expansion of the 19th century. Crossing the treacherous high plains in pursuit of a new life in the West was an arduous and perilous journey. Across The High Plains captures the spirit of these intrepid settlers with its vibrant rhythms and soaring melodies.

Big Woodchuck Muckety-Muck

Big Woodchuck Muckety-Muck is one self-assured rodent. He’s never in a hurry and takes his time with each lumbering step. Whether it’s predicting the weather or just digging a hole, he always means business. Nobody messes with Big Woodchuck Muckety-Muck.

Resistance

A foreboding opening from the upper woodwinds sets the scene for Resistance. Building into an ominous theme from the low brass and horns, this dramatic piece moves to an up-tempo romp led by pulsing low winds and aggressive percussion interjections. Soaring horn lines, complete with dramatic rips, take us back to the opening theme, and the trepidation of an intense and dissonant ending.

Spunk

Spunk is a light-hearted and “spunky” romp. Syncopated rhythms and a strong backbeat compel the listener and performers alike to move to the music. It doesn’t require lots of spunk to add the necessary flair to this piece... but it sure helps! Learn more about the piece here.

Hope

Cynicism is far too easy. Hope takes a little effort, but the rewards are endless. Hope is my latest for full orchestra.

“They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for.” – Tom Bodett

SAIL!

Imagine the wind in your sails, the splash of the waves, the spray across the bow, and the sound of the rigging — all of these elements make a voyage on the sea so exhilarating. With its soaring lines and rousing fanfares, SAIL! for advanced concert band endeavors to bring the freedom and excitement of a sailing adventure to the musical stage.
